A record 906 runners and walkers crossed the finish line at the 11th Annual RGI River Run on Saturday, May 26th. Thanks to many exciting changes that have been implemented over the last two years, the RGI River Run is now one of the ten largest races in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area! This year KFK hosted a post-race party at Arnie's on the Levee, offered a valuable goodie bag to all participants, and handed out even more exciting awards for youth and adults. These improvements helped make an already successful event even better, and the 2007 RGI River Run surpassed last year's records in both number of participants and funds raised.
Thanks to our sponsors and all who participated, the 2007 RGI River Run netted an all-time high of over $36,000! This revenue will enable KFK to have a greater impact on kids in the community this year. In 2007 KFK plans to offer more youth programs than ever before, including one centered on nutrition and fitness, another on art instruction and application, several related to sports camps or trips, and a short-term mentoring/career day. It is because of successful fundraisers like the RGI River Run that we are able to do so much for local children at risk. Proceeds from the RGI River Run will also benefit the Division of Child Life at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and United Cerebral Palsy's Aaron W. Perlman Center. Through these donations KFK is able to positively impact the lives of some special children who are mentally or physically challenged...and bring a little more normalcy to their lives.
Hosting the RGI River Run on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, thus kicking off the summer running season, combined with its scenic location and challenging course, has made this event a great success. Witnessing a child with a walker finish Special K, enjoying a Panera bagel while listening to the live music of the RumRunners, and relaxing at Arnie's on the Levee after the race are what makes this event special. Thanks to all the runners, walkers, volunteers, and sponsors who make this event possible. Whether it will be your twelfth River Run or your first, we hope to have your support in 2008 as we strive to surpass 1,000 participants...on May 24th!
