Kicks For Kids recently granted a wish through its Field of Dreams program to a young man who has endured a lot at just 15 years old. Jacob Clise was one of the most severely injured students in the Grant County school bus accident on January 17, 2007. While the traumatic event left him with both physical and emotional scars, his dream of becoming a video game designer has never subsided. Yet, a major hurdle he faced was his limited access to a computer. On May 30th, Kicks For Kids helped him leap over that hurdle by delivering a state-of-the-art computer to his doorstep!
Jacob's great uncle first contacted KFK Founder, Doug Pelfrey, about the teenager's struggles, as well as his wish to get his own computer. Having his own P.C. would not only help Jacob with school work (he has been home-schooled since the accident), it would provide socialization opportunities and the chance to play his electronic video games. Much of the 15-year-old's time has revolved around doctors' appointments to help repair multiple injuries to his face, leaving little time for Jacob to really enjoy the things he loves. Even more traumatic, he is also still dealing with the loss of his mother (who passed away just two months after the bus crash) and his aunt (who passed away recently).
Kicks For Kids and Jacob's doctors determined he was a perfect candidate for the Field of Dreams program, and the day of delivery, he was all smiles as KFK's staff unloaded his new Dell. His eyes widened with excitement when he learned it was built specifically for his taste. Not only was a special gaming chip installed, but his computer also had increased memory space for all his music and games. "I started playing games when I was five years old," Jacob proudly stated, "I play them until I can beat them." After the P.C. was finally setup, his step-mother, Becky, and siblings Sarah (17), step-sister Abby (12) and Dylan (9), all gathered around Jacob's gift in awe. Asking Jacob what this means to him, his eyes lit up and he said smiling, "A bunch."
The Field of Dreams program provides another way for the charity to directly touch young lives. Through it, KFK fulfills the wishes of critically/chronically ill children. Kicks For Kids would like to thank all the sponsors and donors who help make dreams like this possible.
