General Mills Grant Boosts KFK Fitness Program
On Friday, March 14, General Mills presented Kicks For Kids with a $10,000 check in support of KFK’s A.S.A.P. (Athletic Strength And Power) Program, which the charity is currently providing to local youth. General Mills awarded the grant through its ‘Champions for Healthy Kids’ initiative, which encourages healthy eating choices and active lifestyles in kids and teenagers across the country.

General Mills selected KFK’s A.S.A.P. program for the grant because it is perfectly aligned with specific grant requirements. “Not only was there a nutritional component to the program, but a fitness component as well,” said Christian Quie of General Mills, who nominated KFK as the grant recipient. KFK’s Founder, Doug Pelfrey, accepted the $10,000 check on behalf of the charity. Also in attendance was the program’s instructor, Coach Ted Lambrinides, as well as Dan Carr who accompanied JuJwan Brown and Tyesha Powell (who are both participants in A.S.A.P.).

The A.S.A.P. program is designed to empower teens through nutrition education, physical fitness, life skills and substance abuse prevention. Each participant attends two sessions per week, for ten weeks. Coach Ted Lambrinides works with every individual to set goals and work towards these goals throughout the program. A pre- and post-test is given to each participant to evaluate physical performance and health related measures, such as body composition and blood pressure.

Coach Lambrinides developed A.S.A.P. over 26 years of experience in the fields of physical fitness, personal training and exercise science. He currently serves as a consultant for several NFL teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals, as well as various collegiate athletic programs.
