FIELD OF DREAMS
KFK's Field of Dreams, a program that fulfills the wishes of critically/chronically ill children, brings smiles to bright young faces. Through building a relationship with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center soon after KFK's inception, it became apparent there was a need for a program that would make dreams come true for area children that suffered from debilitating illnesses or conditions -- even though the child may not be considered terminal. In response, KFK created this program. Since 1997, the following wishes have been granted.

The first "dream" to come true was that of Ashley, a 6 year old with severe heart and lung problems . . . and absent parents. A ward of Hamilton County, Ashley lived at Children's Hospital as a result. While blessed with a radiant smile and loving spirit, her fragile condition would not allow for prolonged travel. Thus her "dream resulted in the arrangement of a series of local outings. She saw Hercules on Ice, Sesame Street Live and The Comfy Couch, attended a Bible camp and the Shrine Circus, spent Holidays at her relatives' homes, visited friends, went to a movie theater and the Cincinnati Zoo, enjoyed a Reds game, bought clothes and gifts at Northgate Mall, etc.

KFK has also made the following dreams come true. The second fulfilled "wish" was Brigham's, a 3 year old with leukemia and Hunter Syndrome. He visited Disney World with his family! Tony, a 16-year-old battling cystic fibrosis, received a computer for his schoolwork and social life with family and friends -- it was delivered on Christmas Eve! Hannah (a 9 year old with cancer) and Christofer (a 9 year old with nephropathic cystinosis) each went to Florida with their families to "see the beach & ocean" for the first time. Austin (a five year old who sustained a 40% total body surface area burn) and Lucas (a 17 year old with multiple chronic illnesses) each enjoyed their first airplane trip and a trip to Disney World with their families. Jason, a 17 year old suffering from respiratory failure, severe kyphosis and chronic infections, went on a Christmas shopping spree! Eric (a 16 year old with Crohn's Disease) received a state-of-the art computer to assist with school and outside interests. And so far in 2004, Jonathan (a teenager with juvenile diabetes) flew to Gainesville, Florida with a friend. Once there he attended the Florida vs. Kentucky basketball game, where he got to meet the players and head coach of the Gators -- his favorite team!
