Kicks For Kids plans to offer more youth programs in 2009 than ever before to children and teenagers across the Tri-state. There are several new events planned, including a summer art camp, field trips to local colleges, as well as several partner-programs with Meijer, one of KFK's long-standing sponsors. By offering nearly 25 opportunities to kids from various areas, the charity hopes to expand its mission of 'leveling the playing field' and reach a wider scope of children that reside in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana.
KFK met with several of its partnering agencies and schools early this year to receive feedback on programs the charity currently offers, as well as new programs that could possibly be implemented for the 2009-2010 year. This helped tremendously in constructing the current youth calendar by narrowing in on the programs that could provide the most impact on the population KFK serves. "This year’s calendar is packed with a lot of activities I think children really need," said Jeanne Bell with Inner City Youth Opportunities, one of KFK’s partnering agencies. "Most nonprofits cannot afford the kind of activities KFK offers, and it's a chance for these kids to go to these events, and experience the things that we all want for our own kids and grandkids...new experiences," Jeanne added.
The increase of programs can primarily be attributed to the generous sponsors and committed volunteers who continue to support the charity's mission by donating their funds and time each year. Despite a tepid economy, KFK's sponsors have stayed committed to KFK, knowing that their dollars are supporting children in their surrounding communities. This year Meijer will be partnering with Kicks For Kids on a number of programs including a ‘Back to School' event this fall for children and their families at a Meijer location, a holiday shopping event held at a designated Meijer store for 10 children, and a pumpkin decorating contest, to name a few.
The charity also has an incredible resource of volunteers and committee members, who not only donate their time and energy to staff the youth programs and fundraisers, but look for ways to improve them.
