Once again the event will be held at the prestigious Triple Crown Country Club in Union, KY, taking place on Monday, June 23rd and Tuesday, June 24th. Dozens of celebrities have already committed to attend, including a handful of veteran participants (Rich Brooks, Doug Flynn, Sam Wyche) and some new faces as well (James Brooks, Mark Gastineau, Otis Wilson). We are hoping to build on last year’s success and make 2008 the greatest to date!

Children and chaperones from the 13th Annual Christmas Celebration reunited on April 19th for the Reds vs. Brewers Game at Great American Ball Park. Over 60 kids and adults cheered on the Reds from the reserved Party Deck area, located on the 1st base side. The event provided the opportunity for the children and their chaperones to spend more one-on-one time with each other as a follow up to the Christmas Celebration in December.

Kicks For Kids recently granted a wish through its Field of Dreams program to a young man who has endured a lot at just 15 years old. Jacob Clise was one of the most severely injured students in the Grant County school bus accident on January 17, 2007. While the traumatic event left him with both physical and emotional scars, his dream of becoming a video game designer has never subsided. Yet, a major hurdle he faced was his limited access to a computer. On May 30th, Kicks For Kids helped him leap over that hurdle by delivering a state-of-the-art computer to his doorstep!

In an effort to fight the rising trend of childhood obesity, Kicks For Kids is currently offering it's A.S.A.P. (Athletic Strength And Power) workout program to local middle and high school teenagers. In addition, the charity is bringing a powerful presentation about diet, exercise and the dangers of steroids and nutritional supplements to schools. These programs got a major boost, thanks to a generous grant from General Mills through its 'Champions for Healthy Kids' initiative, which is designed to encourage healthy eating choices and active lifestyles in kids and teenagers across the country.

Every year, Jim Skoog generously volunteers his time and efforts to support the growth and success of Kicks For Kids. Serving as the chairman of the Meijer/KFK Celebrity Golf Classic from the beginning, he strives to bring the event to a higher level each June. He does all of this while also managing to serve as the Associate Principal of Sycamore High School. It is this balance, and his commitment to KFK, that places him in the Volunteer Spotlight.
