RGI River Run Sets New Records!
The 12th Annual RGI River Run kicked off the summer running season at full speed, setting new records for the third consecutive year in terms of the number of participants and funds raised. We not only reached our goal of 1,000 participants – we surpassed it! On a beautiful morning, a total of 1,244 runners and walkers supported the RGI River Run Saturday, May 24th, firmly placing it among the top ten races in all of Greater Cincinnati. The event helped net more than $40,000, which will now be directed towards a number of youth enrichment programs.

Meijer/KFK Celebrity Golf Classic... Celebrating the Tri-State's Sporting Success!
On June 23rd and 24th dozens of celebrities and over 220 people, representing a variety of sponsors, came out to support the charity's largest annual fundraiser...the Meijer/KFK Celebrity Golf Classic. Because this year marked a number of memorable sports moments with a local connection (30-year anniversary of the last Triple Crown Winner, Steve Cauthen; UK's 1948, 1958, 1978 & 1998 Men's NCAA Basketball Championships; the Bengals' 1988 Super Bowl Team; 2008 Cyclones' Kelly Cup Win; NKU Women’s Basketball Team winning NCAA Division II Championship), KFK based the event around "Celebrating the Tri-State's Sporting Success". WLW-AM's longest running on-air personality, Gary Burbank, served as the emcee of this year's Pairings Party, and helped recognize dozens of local sports icons and their accomplishments.

Kicks For Kids 1st Kicking Camp!
On June 11th, nearly twenty local children attended KFK's 1st Kicking Camp, held at Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, KY. Each participant had the unique opportunity to learn from two kicking legends, KFK Founder, Doug Pelfrey, and the Bengals' all-time leading scorer, Jim Breech. The former Bengals' players provided one-on-one instruction to each camper about the fundamentals of kicking.

KFK's Olympic Games!
In conjunction with our long-standing partners, the Covington Housing Authority and Covington Independent Public Schools, KFK hosted an Olympic-themed sports camp in early July at Camp Kern in Oregonia, OH. Participants were divided into teams representing Brazil, Canada, China and the U.S.A., each competing in a variety of activities for the gold, silver and bronze medals. The sports camp was part of a seven-week camp our partners hosted for local children. In order to attend, the campers had to have met certain criteria throughout the last school year: quality behavior without disciplinary referrals, superior attendance and academic achievement.

Sponsor Spotlight: Blue Grass Recycling
Without the continued support of sponsors like Blue Grass Recycling, Kicks For Kids would not be able to enhance the lives of so many local children. For more than a decade, the company's vast involvement includes sponsoring the Kids Zone at the RGI River Run, participating in the Meijer/KFK Celebrity Golf Classic, and for the second year in a row, sponsoring the charity's 2008 Basketball Camp in Kentucky.

Volunteer Spotlight: Staci Hathaway
Two words that best describe Staci Hathaway and her work with Kicks For Kids are: service and commitment. She has volunteered for just about every position involved with KFK's events, all the while keeping her busy schedule as a fourth grade teacher at Hopewell Elementary in West Chester and a prominent Youth Leader of her church. Presently, Staci chairs the annual Great Outdoor Adventure in the fall and volunteers at the RGI River Run and the Meijer/KFK Celebrity Golf Classic; she also cannot recall a Christmas party she has missed since its inception! "I try to do whatever my schedule allows," she laughs.
